Would You Rather...?

I have a question for you.  Would you rather spend your time wandering the Great Plains or drifting on the open sea?  Let me help influence your decision.
Wandering on the open plains and drifting on the sea are different.
When you're on the Great Plains, you're on land.  Second of all, you might have less dangers to face on land.  When you are on the plains, you might have to worry about food and water, animals, or other problems.  Also, being on the plains you might have a landmark or two to maybe help cicerone you on your odyssey.
When you're on the water, you probably have to worry about dangerous animals, natural disasters, boat problems, or other things.  On the sea, you are in the middle of nowhere, only sea as far as the eye can see.
You might also have troubles concluding which decision is better because, either way, you have a plentiful amount of food.  But that also means that you always have the possibility of being in danger.  You always have to have knowledge of your surroundings so you have to be prepared.  You may have a lot of food but not good supply of water.
I hope I have had a lasting impression in your decision.  (As if you even thought about doing this)

If You Give A Scientist An Experiment

If you give a scientist an analysis, she will want supplies.
When she fancies some supplies, you will have to go find them somewhere.
When you find them, you will have to bring the supplies back.
When you bring them back, the scientist will want a work area.
When the scientist wants a work area, you will have to clean an area off for her.
When you clean a space off, you will have to unpack the supplies for the scientist.
When you are finished unpacking, the scientist will have a hankering for a snack.
When the scientist has a hankering for a snack, you will have to go to the kitchen and get her a snack.
When you have gotten a snack for the scientist, she is ready to do the analysis.
When the scientist is ready to do the analysis, she does the analysis.
When the scientist is finished with the analysis, she will besiege you to have another one.

My Perfect Morning

In the morning, I have a routine schedule.
First, I get dressed.  I choose an outfit that I think would get me through the day best.  It is simple.
Next, I usually do my hair.  I mostly put my hair in ponytails, buns, or I just leave it down.
Then, I will sometimes put on make-up.  I don't wear much, just mascara and eyeliner.  I only do it if I don't think it will run throughout the day.
After that, I usually get my shoes on so I am ready to go when the time arrives.
The next thing I do is have breakfast.  I frequently have cereal for breakfast but that is all right with me.
      Finally, I brush my teeth.
I have a mellow routine, but that is the way I like it.

Basketball

Some people have a hard time finding a sport they love playing.  If they haven't already, I suggest they play basketball.  In my opinion, basketball is one of the most amazing sports you can play.
Basketball is very athletic.  You have to be agile to play.  You're running up and down the court and jumping numerous times.
It is very exciting to play basketball.  Personally,   I get a rush playing the sport.  It's so exciting when you win a game.
Playing basketball also gives you a lot of opportunities.  It gets you into college, you could play professionally, it could even help you in middle school and high school.
I hope I have enticed you to join a basketball team.  It's worth it.

Elene Delle Donne: Attitude On The Court And Off It

Elena Delle Donne is a famous WNBA basketball player, she is also my sports idol.
In my opinion, Elena is very committed towards basketball.  In high school she lead her team to four state championships!  In college she led Delaware to back-to-back conference titles and two undefeated conference seasons. She also took her team to the Sweet 16, completing the best season in school history.  She even joined Team USA and competed in the World University Games in China.  While she was there, she earned a gold medal!  There's also her WNBA career.  She has been selected second overall by the Chicago Sky, been named rookie of the year, and has been player of the week.  I can definitely see more titles in her future.
Off the court, Elena gives back by raising awareness about different causes and giving many hope and exhilaration.  She graduated with a degree in human services.  She adores helping children with special needs.  She also likes raising awareness for Lyme disease. She has actually been battling this disease ever since 2008.
Elena Delle Donne is a stupendous role model for me and people everywhere.

What Is That?!

I was sitting at the table, minding my own business, when my mom walks in with a bag full of groceries.
"What do you have, Mom?" I asked intently.
"Oh, just the usual.  Fruits, vegetables, meat, and strawberry syrup."
    "Oh.  Can I try some?"
    "Sure," my mom replied.
I got out a bowl and put some ice cream into it.  I then poured the syrup onto it.  As soon as I put it into my mouth, I started gagging with disgust.
"Oh my gosh!  What's the matter?" my mom asked urgently.
"Oh nothing," I said as I abruptly stopped gagging, "I just was gagging because this syrup tastes like cough syrup!  It's horrid!  It's not red, syrupy food!  It's horrific cough syrup!"
"Fine, I'll just throw it away, just don't scare me like that again."
Luckily, I have never seen strawberry syrup again.

    But that could change...

Josie The Monkey

It was one of the hottest days of the year.  Jennifer and John are twins.  Identical twins, except for the fact that one is a boy and one is a girl, of course.  Anyway, they were walking to the park, because they were going to meet up with some friends.  When they got there they wandered around for a bit, because they had noticed that none of there friends were there yet.  Something about John and Jennifer is that they are very competitive with each other.
"I bet I can climb that oak tree faster than you." Jennifer exclaimed.
"I bet you can't!" John said even though he was not so sure of himself.
They were off as soon as he said that.  They ran to the oak tree and started climbing it.  They were neck-and-neck.  When they reached the top it was a tie.
"I hate how it's always a tie!" John and Jennifer said in unison.
"Stop it!"  they said in unison.  Again.
All of a sudden, something blurred flung itself out of the leaves toward Jennifer.
"Aaaaaahhhhh!"  Jennifer let out a scream.  The thing landed on her and they were just a blizzard of hands, feet, and what seemed to be paws.  Suddenly, everything just stopped.  When Jennifer and John came out of their funk, what they saw was the most unforeseen predicament they could have seen themselves in.  There, sitting on Jennifer's lap was a small capuchin monkey.  Then, it was gone.  The monkey just disappeared.
"Please say you saw it too," Jennifer said.
     "Unfortunately, I did," said John.
The next day they were at the park again.  John and Jennifer were wary of their surroundings.  They were always looking around them, thinking the monkey was still there.  All of a sudden the monkey was right in front of them.
"What should we do?" asked John.
     Jennifer started towards the monkey.
"It doesn't look so frightening," Jennifer explained.  "I think we should take it home with us. It looks lost."
     "Fine," John replied reluctantly.
So they took him home.  When they got there they started making their home fit for a capuchin monkey.  When they were done,  Josie, they named her that, lay down for a while.
They heard a knock at the door, and when they opened it they saw a keeper from the local zoo.
"We are missing Jazz, our young capuchin monkey.  We were just wondering if you have seen her around.  She escaped two days ago."
"No, we haven't seen her," Jennifer said.
     "Thank you for your time."
Jennifer shut the door and looked to where Josie was lying down.
"That zookeeper was mean.  We cannot let them take Josie."
"Oh thank gosh."  The monkey was talking!!  "I absolutely hate them!!"
"What did you just say?" asked John.
"I said, I absolutely hate those people.  They are so mean."
     That is when Jennifer fainted.

"That girl has our monkey.  We are going to get her back."  The zookeeper was talking to his boss.
    "Well, then go!"
    "Yes, sir"

After Jennifer and John came to terms with Josie being able to talk, they took Josie for a walk.  They looked back and they saw zoo-people running towards them.  They started running.
Jennifer, John, and Josie have been on the run ever since.

My Awesome Pets

I adore my pets.  I have two turtles.  They are Red-eared Sliders.  They are called Red-eared Sliders because they have red stripes where their ears should be.  They are magnificent.
My two turtle's names are Melvin and Rudy.  Melvin is smaller than Rudy.  Rudy eats a lot while Melvin likes to kind of hide beneath the basking rock.
They eat a lot!  I love feeding them dried shrimp and dried worms.
I enjoy playing with them except when they try to bite me.  I don't really like them then.  Once in a while when I bring them outside to get some fresh air, Melvin just sits there not doing anything while Rudy is always moving around trying to run away.
They are so adorable and are small, but that is because they are still young.
My turtles are some of the best pets!

Snow White And The Bad Ego

Maquoketa Valley Times
On Dec. 25, 13, there was a breaking/entering and a shooting.  The suspect(s) fled before officials arrived.  The family that survived the shooting speak out about the incident.
"It was so scary!" says one.
"It was like total paranoia, dude.  There were a bunch of little people with the person," says another.
"I was so astounded because nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I just stood there while the person put our valuables in his/her bag."
Officials have figured out, by the details given by the family, the suspect is a woman.  She is 5'6 and very thin.  She also had raven-black hair.  The little people with her might be dwarfs and about seven in count.
IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION, CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Maquoketa Valley Times
On January 3, 2014, officials have finally found the suspect of the breaking/entering and shooting incident.  She is a middle aged woman whose name is Snow White.  The men with her are the famous seven dwarfs that she is always seen with.  They all fit the description.   They are all now in custody and will face charges.  I guess Snow isn't the perfect person we thought her to be, and the dwarfs, well, we always had a hunch they were bad.  They aren't going to be the most trusted people after all this.
Maquoketa Valley Times
Officials have more to report on the breaking story about the breaking/entering and shooting incident.  The woman that they have in custody did commit the crime, but she isn't Snow White.  She's lying and deceitful, The Queen!   Yeah, that's right.  The first person we should have thought done it, did it.  I guess she is never going to change.  As for the dwarfs, they were just random village-men who aren't very tall.  Sorry, Snow White.  Everyone owes you and the dwarfs an apology.  Especially The Queen.

Only The Very Best...

I think one of the best products you can spend money on is a turtle.
Turtles are so entertaining to have as a pet.  You can play with them, you can hold them, and you can feed them and watch them eat.  It is actually quite enjoyable.
When you play with turtles, they are very boisterous.  They swim around (aquatic turtle) and follow your finger.  You can hold them.  It is really fun to have a turtle.
When you feed them you can actually feed them anything.  I tried feeding mine goldfish.  They didn't really try to go after them.  Usually they catch them, but my turtles couldn't.  I also feed them shrimp and worms.
I truly think you should buy a turtle.

How I'm Going To Be Remembered

Going out of sixth grade I want to be remembered as a kind, smart, and eager-to-learn person.  I want to be a role model for the class coming into the sixth grade.  I want people to look at me and think of me in a kind way.
As you may or may not know I am a diabetic.  Being a diabetic I want the other diabetics to know that, even though you are different, it doesn't mean that you can't do as well as someone else.  It doesn't mean that you aren't as valued as other people might be.  I want to go through sixth grade feeling really loved by my friends and getting really good grades.
I just want to be perceived as a student that empowers everyone around me.

My Awesome Hobbies

I have a great deal of hobbies, and I like to do a great deal of activities.  I'm excited for you to know about them and maybe start some of your own hobbies.
I like to collect things.  I like collecting things like; rocks, marbles, tractors, that my grandpa gives me, and I like collecting snapple caps.
I also adore playing sports.  I love playing basketball, volleyball, and just doing any kind of physical activity.
I don't know if this would count as a hobby, but I love school.  I'm one of the few kids in my class who does.  I love school and all the things you get to learn there.  Actually, my favorite classes are social studies and science.
I adore my hobbies because, in some way, they kind of define the kind of person I am.

My Life With Diabetes

My life has never been the same since that day.  The day I found out I was going to live the rest of my life with diabetes.
It all started on a Monday.  I was feeling really dehydrated.  I was feeling that way the entire week.  Then, on that Friday my mom took me into the doctor's office.  I had to do a test, and I found out I had a lot of sugar in my bladder.  I had to get my blood sugar taken, and when the results came back, the number was so high that the meter wouldn't even read it!  (I later found out my blood sugar was 653!!  That is really high!)  I then had to get blood taken.  We had to wait about 45 minutes and then the doctor came out.  When I first saw the doctor, I knew something was wrong.  Her face said it all.  She asked where my dad was, and my mom said that he was having basketball practice.  That's when she said I had to go to the hospital, and I was scared.  The doctor said I had to go to the hospital right away.  My mom and I left the office and went to pick up my dad.  We went to St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids.
I had to stay there for  four days and three nights.  I had to give blood almost everyday.  It was kind of tiring.  I had to give myself shots for the first couple months.  I also have to prick my finger a least 7 times a day.  I had to meet with a certain doctor, and I had to meet with a couple different nurses.
I got a pump a couple months later.  The pump really helps.  Like, a lot.  It was probably one of the best decisions I could have made in my diabetes.
I have been healthy ever since I was diagnosed except... there was this time when I had the stomach flu.  I had to go to the E.R. two days in a row!  I had to have an IV both times and had bags of fluids both times.  It was kind of scary because I did not feel good at all.
I have now been a healthy diabetic for over a year and a half.
The weirdest thing about the whole diagnoses is that I was diagnosed on Friday the 13th.

Lydia's Rockin' Summer

My summer was rockin'!  I was really busy this summer.  I think this summer was magnificent, but it was really short.
I was in basketball for most of the time.  I was part of an AAU basketball team, called Iowa Team Fury, that was based out of Dubuque.  I had to try out for it, and as you can tell I made it onto the team.  It was really amazing because, besides playing basketball, I met a lot of new girls, made a lot of new friends, and got to travel a lot.  We went to a bunch of different places.  We went to the Wisconsin Dells a couple times, and we got to go to Chicago a couple times.
The Chicago tournament was really fun!  We played three games and won all of them.  In the end we got first.  I was really happy!!
The first time I went to Chicago, my parents and I got to go to a bunch of different places like; the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Lincoln Park Zoo.    I took a lot of pictures and got a lot of awesome souvenirs.
The second time I went to Chicago, I got to go to a WNBA game.  Chicago Sky was playing the Minnesota Lynx.  I got to do the high-five tunnel for the Minnesota Lynx when they were coming onto the floor.  Chicago Sky won the game!!  My favorite player plays for them.  Her name is Elena Delle Donne.  She is a post player.  I got a pennant with her name on it.  I also got two autographs.  It was so amazing to go to the game.
This summer I hung out with my family a lot.  That's what I think I like the most about the summer.
      I loved my rockin' summer!

Back To School With Lydia

Hey, my name is Lydia.  I'm super excited about becoming a blogger and being able to express my feelings, share my ideas, and stories.
Just so you can understand, a little better, about who I am and what I am writing about, I want to tell you about myself.
I love to read.  One of my favorite authors is Roderick Gordon.  His books are spectacular!!  I also love to do a lot of things like; basketball, volleyball, and I love to collect things like rocks and Snapple caps (because they have facts on them).  I'm also a huge school geek!!  I love science and social studies, and what you get to learn in them!  I feel like with school, you are unstoppable in the world.
I really hope you like my blogs.
           I am a 6th grade blogger.
