I have a question for you. Would you rather spend your time wandering the Great Plains or drifting on the open sea? Let me help influence your decision.
Wandering on the open plains and drifting on the sea are different.
When you're on the Great Plains, you're on land. Second of all, you might have less dangers to face on land. When you are on the plains, you might have to worry about food and water, animals, or other problems. Also, being on the plains you might have a landmark or two to maybe help cicerone you on your odyssey.
When you're on the water, you probably have to worry about dangerous animals, natural disasters, boat problems, or other things. On the sea, you are in the middle of nowhere, only sea as far as the eye can see.
You might also have troubles concluding which decision is better because, either way, you have a plentiful amount of food. But that also means that you always have the possibility of being in danger. You always have to have knowledge of your surroundings so you have to be prepared. You may have a lot of food but not good supply of water.
I hope I have had a lasting impression in your decision. (As if you even thought about doing this)
